Acceptance

Acceptance is the conscious recognition of facts and one's own experiences without unnecessary fighting with what already exists.

Definition

Acceptance does not mean consent to harm, passivity or giving up action. It means realistically acknowledging what is already present: facts, emotions, limitations and consequences. In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), acceptance is part of psychological flexibility: it helps you stop spending energy on fruitless struggles with internal experiences and direct your attention to acting in accordance with your values.

Key ideas

  1. Kontakt z rzeczywistością
  2. Ograniczanie walki wewnętrznej
  3. Działanie mimo dyskomfortu

Practice and life

Write a difficult situation in two columns: what I can't control and what I can do today. Focus on the second column.

Common misunderstanding

Acceptance is most often confused with resignation. Another mistake is to expect that acceptance will immediately take away the emotional pain.

Questions for self-reflection

  • Co jest faktem, a co moją interpretacją?
  • Z czym walczę, choć nie mam na to wpływu?
  • Jaki mały krok jest możliwy mimo trudnych emocji?
