Emotional pain

Emotional pain is subjective psychological suffering associated with loss, rejection, anxiety, shame, loneliness, or the violation of important needs.

Definition

Emotional pain is not a diagnosis, but a description of a severe internal experience. It may occur after loss, conflict, trauma, failure, rejection or long-term stress. It can be felt as tension, emptiness, despair, shame, fear or a sense of identity breakdown. If it is severe, long-lasting or associated with suicidal thoughts, it requires urgent support from a specialist or crisis services.

Practice and life

Name specifically what hurts: loss, shame, loneliness, fear or helplessness. Then choose one safe step: contact a loved one, write down your thoughts or consult a specialist.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to downplay emotional pain just because there is no visible wound. It's also a mistake to try to immediately "fix" it without acknowledging the experience.
