Conditioning

Conditioning is a learning process in which stimuli, responses, and consequences create repeated associations that influence behavior.

Definition

Conditioning may be of a classical nature, when a neutral stimulus begins to evoke a response after being associated with a significant stimulus, or of a causative nature, when the behavior is strengthened or weakened by consequences. Thanks to conditioning, we learn threats, rewards, habits and emotional reactions.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse conditioning with the lack of free will. It is also a mistake to ignore the environment that reinforces the old pattern.
