Focalization of attention

Focalization of attention is directing attention to a selected object, stimulus or aspect of experience while pushing other elements to the background.

Definition

Attention is selective: what becomes a figure usually acquires greater cognitive and emotional significance. Focalization helps you act precisely, but it can also narrow the picture of the situation if you stay on one stimulus for too long. Therefore, it is important to consciously switch between the focus of attention and the broader context.

Practice and life

In a difficult situation, ask: what is my attention now and what am I not seeing because of it? Then consciously widen your field of observation.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to consider what attracts the most attention as the most important. It is also a mistake to have no control over whether the attention should be narrow or broad.
