Withdrawal is a reduction in contact, activity or involvement, often as a response to stress, anxiety, shame, overload or loss of energy.

Withdrawal can be a healthy break and a form of protection if it is conscious, temporary and restorative. It can also become a problem when it leads to isolation, loss of support, and avoidance of important issues. The key question is whether withdrawal rebuilds me or gradually shuts me down.
