Visualization

Visualization is the intentional creation of mental images or scenarios that help prepare attention, emotions, and action.

Definition

Visualization can support planning, skill training, regulation and obstacle anticipation. It does not replace practice, but it can prepare it: it helps you see the sequence of actions, possible difficulties and the desired way of reacting. It is most useful when it covers not only success, but also process and dealing with disruptions.

Practice and life

Imagine not just the finale, but three steps in the process and one obstacle. Write down how you will react when an obstacle appears.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to use visualization as a substitute for action. It is also a mistake to visualize only perfect success without a plan for difficulties.
