Fear of judgment is the fear that others will negatively judge our behavior, appearance, competences or emotions.

Definition

It can appear at work, in relationships, speaking and in social situations. It does not always mean a disorder, but when it leads to strong avoidance and constant self-monitoring, it can significantly limit life. It is often associated with perfectionism, shame and anticipation of rejection.

Practice and life

Before the evaluation situation, write down: what opinion I am afraid of, what the worst could actually happen and what I will do if I receive neutral or critical feedback.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to treat all criticism as evidence of rejection. It is also a mistake to avoid exposure that could show that the grade is bearable.
