Emotional maturity

Emotional maturity is the ability to recognize, regulate and express emotions responsibly towards oneself and others.

Definicja

Emotional maturity includes contact with emotions, tolerance of frustration, accepting responsibility for reactions, and the ability to repair after conflict. It does not equal coolness or perfect control. It is rather the ability to notice an impulse, name the experience and choose a response that does not destroy relationships or one's own values.

Praktyka i życie

After a difficult conversation, write down: what I felt, what I did, what I needed and what I can fix. Seek accountability without self-flagellation.

Częste błędne rozumienie

It is a mistake to equate maturity with suppressing emotions. It is also a mistake to expect that a mature person will never react impulsively.
