Integration of experiences

Integration of experiences is combining experiences, emotions and conclusions into a coherent narrative that supports learning and further action.

Definition

Experience itself does not always lead to growth. Development occurs when a person is able to notice what happened, what meaning he gave it and what he wants to learn for the future. Integration does not mean justifying everything, but embedding events in a broader picture of yourself, relationships and decisions.

Practice and life

After an important event, write down: facts, emotions, reactions, conclusion and one change in behavior. Come back to the note after a week when the emotions subside.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to force meaning too quickly, especially after difficult experiences. A common mistake is to analyze without any change in practice.
