Frustration

Frustration is a state of tension that occurs when an important need, goal, or expectation encounters an obstacle.

Definition

Frustration may motivate you to look for solutions, but when intense, it narrows your thinking and increases impulsivity. It is not evidence of weakness, but information about the conflict between striving and blocking. Regulation of frustration involves naming the need, assessing the real obstacle and choosing a reaction instead of an automatic outburst.

Practice and life

When frustration arises, write down: what I wanted, what stopped me, and what response would help me maintain influence without destroying the situation.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to suppress your frustration until it explodes. It is also a mistake to consider it a sufficient reason to hurt others or give up your goal.
