Working with the shadow

Shadow work is reflective work on repressed, rejected or difficult aspects of one's psyche.

Definition

In Jungian terms, the shadow means those parts of the personality that a person does not want or is unable to recognize as his own. In developmental practice, shadow work involves noticing projection, shame, jealousy, anger and repetitive reactions without immediately condemning yourself. It does not replace therapy, especially in the case of trauma, dissociative disorders or severe mental suffering.

Practice and life

Write down a situation in which someone particularly irritated you. Ask: "What can't I stand about this person, and does this topic have any trace in me?"

Common misunderstanding

It is wrong to use "shadow" as an excuse for harmful behavior. A common mistake is entering too difficult content without stabilization and support.
