I
The "self" is the way a person recognizes himself as a person with his own experiences, characteristics, history and choices.
Definition
In psychology, the concept of "self" includes both self-image and a sense of continuity and separateness from the environment. It is not one thing, but a set of beliefs, memories, roles, evaluations and ways of relating to one's experiences. A healthy understanding of "self" helps you act coherently, but too rigid attachment to one story about yourself can limit change.

Practice and life
Write down five sentences starting with "I am..." and then check which ones describe facts, which describe roles, and which only describe a momentary interpretation.
Common misunderstanding
It is a mistake to treat "I" as a fixed label that cannot be updated. The second mistake is confusing your momentary emotional state with your overall identity.
