Posttraumatic growth

Posttraumatic growth is a positive psychological change that may occur in some people as a result of dealing with a deep crisis or trauma.

Definition

Posttraumatic growth does not mean that the trauma was good, necessary, or that everyone should grow from it. Describes possible changes such as a greater appreciation for life, deeper relationships, a sense of personal power, new priorities, or spiritual and existential change. It takes time, support and processing experience.

Practice and life

Do not ask after trauma "what good comes from it?" Ask about safety, support and stability first. The meaning may come later, not on demand.

Common misunderstanding

It is wrong to expect height from a traumatized person. It is also a mistake to romanticize suffering.
