Me observing

The observing self is a perspective from which a person can notice thoughts, emotions, and roles without fully identifying with them.

Definicja

In the ACT approach, a similar concept occurs as self-as-context, i.e. the ability to contact experience from the position of an observer. This does not mean detachment from emotion or spiritual escape, but the ability to see that the thought, feeling and impulse are the content of the experience, not the whole person. This perspective supports psychological flexibility.

Praktyka i życie

Observe your thoughts for a minute and add: "I notice the thought that..." Don't judge the content, just practice the position of an observer.

Częste błędne rozumienie

It is a mistake to use the observer self to suppress feelings. It is also a mistake to create another rigid role out of it: "I am above emotions."
