Correction experience

A corrective experience is a new experience that weakens an old belief or emotional pattern through real, different contact with the situation.

Definition

A corrective experience occurs when a person experiences something different from what he usually expected in a known, difficult area. This may concern relationships, therapy, acting despite fear or receiving a reaction different from the previous pattern. It's not about a magical one-time healing, but about gradually updating your beliefs through experience.

Practice and life

Identify an old belief, such as "if I express my need, I will be rejected." Then plan a small, safe experiment that can provide a new experience.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to expect that one positive experience will immediately change the entire pattern. It is also a mistake to force corrections in relationships that are not safe.
