Intrinsic motivation is an action undertaken because it is interesting, valuable or satisfying in itself.

Intrinsic motivation does not mean that action is always easy or pleasant. It means that its source is found in personal meaning, curiosity, values or a sense of development. The self-determination theory combines higher quality motivation with autonomy, competence and relationality.
