Loneliness

Loneliness is the subjective feeling of lacking sufficiently close, meaningful or supportive contact with others.

Definition

Loneliness is not the same as being alone. You can be lonely among people and calm in solitude. Long-term loneliness can burden one's mental and physical well-being, so it is worth treating it as a signal of the need for connection, conversation, belonging or quality contact.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to be ashamed of loneliness as a personal failure. It is also a mistake to drown it out with accidental contact without quality.
