Imposter syndrome

Impostor syndrome is the experience of persistent doubt in one's own competence despite external evidence of achievement or effectiveness.

Definition

Imposter syndrome, more commonly called imposter phenomenon in the literature, is not a formal diagnosis in disorder classifications. However, it may be associated with anxiety, perfectionism, difficulty accepting success and the fear that others will "discover" the alleged lack of competence. It is important to distinguish between healthy humility and persistent invalidation of the evidence of one's own work.

Practice and life

Create a list of evidence of competence: specific results, feedback, completed tasks. Don't judge them with emotion, just with facts.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to romanticize imposter syndrome as a sign of ambition. It is also a mistake to ignore real competence gaps that can be filled normally.
