Categorization
Categorization is the process of grouping objects, events, or information according to similarities and meanings.
Definition
Categorization allows you to reduce the complexity of the world and recognize patterns faster. Thanks to it, a person does not analyze each stimulus from scratch, but assigns it to known classes. The problem arises when categories become too rigid, simplistic or lead to stereotyping.

Practice and life
When assessing a person or situation, write down the category you automatically applied, and then add three details that do not fit into it.
Common misunderstanding
It is a mistake to treat categories as the full truth about a phenomenon. Exceptions and context that change interpretation are often omitted.
