The intention-action gap

The intention-action gap is the discrepancy between what a person intends to do and what he actually does.

Definition

This gap occurs when a good intention is not translated into a specific plan, starting conditions and response to obstacles. It's not just a lack of character. Often, unclear incentives, high start-up costs, lack of implementation of intentions and competitive rewards decide.

Key ideas

  1. Zamiar to nie plan
  2. Warunki uruchomienia działania
  3. Rola implementacji intencji

Practice and life

Convert the intention into a formula: If X happens, then I will do Y instead of Z. The more specific the trigger, the smaller the gap.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to assume that a declaration alone is enough. It is also a mistake to plan without taking into account fatigue, distractions and obstacles.

Questions for self-reflection

  • Jaki wyzwalacz uruchomi działanie?
  • Co zrobię, gdy pojawi się przeszkoda?
  • Czy mój zamiar jest zapisany jako konkretna procedura?
