Focus

Focus is the directing of attention to a selected object, goal or task while limiting competing stimuli.

Definition

Focus is not a fixed quality, but a state and skill that depends on energy, environment, emotion, and clarity of purpose. The more competing stimuli, the more difficult it is to maintain coherent attention. A well-organized focus requires both choosing what you focus on and deciding what you don't support for the time being.

Practice and life

Before you work, write down one goal statement and eliminate your three biggest distractions. Work in a short block and then check whether your attention was on the task.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to expect complete focus in an environment designed for distraction. Focus is often confused with tension and forcing oneself by force.
