Executive activities

Executive functions are cognitive processes that help you plan, inhibit impulses, switch attention, and achieve goals.

Definition

Executive functions include, but are not limited to: working memory, response inhibition, cognitive flexibility, planning, monitoring and decision-making. They are important in learning, work, relationships and self-regulation. Their temporary weakness may be due to fatigue, stress, lack of sleep or overload, and not just a permanent characteristic of the person.

Practice and life

When dealing with a difficult task, take the burden off your working memory: write down the steps, set a timer, and remove one distraction.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to judge executive problems as laziness without analyzing sleep, stress, environment and workload. A common mistake is keeping the plan only in your head.
