Eudaimonia

Eudaimonia is the concept of well-being understood as a meaningful, valuable and developing life, not just a momentary pleasure.

Definition

Eudaimonia comes from Greek philosophy, particularly the Aristotelian tradition, and is often translated as flourishing or living well in a deeper sense. In psychology, it is sometimes associated with hedonic well-being, i.e. pleasure and positive mood. The eudaimonic approach emphasizes meaning, virtue, development, commitment and living in accordance with values.

Key ideas

  1. Sens i wartości
  2. Rozkwit zamiast samej przyjemności
  3. Długofalowa jakość życia

Practice and life

Write down three actions that are not always easy, but build a life you respect. Choose one and plan a small, repeatable version of it.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse eudaimonia with constant happiness. The second mistake is to use it as an excuse to ignore rest and simple pleasure.
