Reactivity

Reactivity is the tendency to react quickly and intensely to stimuli before fuller reflection occurs.

Definition

Reactivity may involve emotions, body, attention and behavior. It is not a defect in itself - it can be an element of sensitivity and quick detection of meaning - but without regulation it can lead to impulsive decisions, conflicts and difficulties in postponing reactions. Its opposite is not coldness, but greater space between stimulus and response.

Practice and life

In difficult conversations, introduce the one-pause rule: before you answer, mentally name the emotion and exhale one calmly.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse reactivity with authenticity. It's also a mistake to shame yourself for a reaction instead of learning to regulate it.
