Subconscious

Subconscious is a colloquial term for mental processes that operate outside of current, conscious awareness.

Definition

In scientific language, it is more common to talk about unconscious, automatic or hidden processes than about a single "subconscious". They include, among others: habitual associations, emotional reactions, implicit memory and automatic processing of stimuli. In development work, it is worth using this concept carefully, without attributing magical properties to it.

Practice and life

When you respond automatically, write down the stimulus, first thought, emotion, and action. Look for repeating patterns rather than assuming one underlying cause.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to treat the subconscious as a separate person in the head. A common mistake is to explain everything without observing facts and behavior.
