Interoceptive sensation

Interoceptive sensation is receiving, integrating and interpreting signals coming from inside the body.

Definition

Interoception includes, among others: signals related to breathing, heart rate, tension, hunger, temperature, pain and visceral conditions. It is important for emotions, self-regulation and the sense of "what is happening to me." However, it does not mean infallible intuition - signals from the body require interpretation, which may be distorted by fear, stress or previous experiences.
