Labeling emotions
Labeling emotions involves naming an experienced state, which can help regulate arousal and increase self-awareness.
Definition
Labeling emotions involves consciously choosing words to match what is happening in the body and mind. Research on affect labeling indicates that simply naming an emotion can reduce distress in some conditions and support regulation. However, it does not work mechanically always and for everyone; the intensity of emotions, the moment of use and the readiness to contact the experience are important.

Practice and life
Instead of saying "I feel bad", specify: sadness, anger, fear, shame, disappointment, overload. Add intensity and possible need.
Common misunderstanding
It is a mistake to treat labeling as emotional suppression. A common mistake is choosing general words that do not help recognize the real situation.
