Data collection is the systematic collection of information needed to understand a situation, make a decision, or test a hypothesis.
Definition
Collecting data helps you move from impressions and guesses to a more verifiable picture of the situation. Data may be numerical, descriptive, observational, or qualitative. When solving problems, it is important not only to collect information, but also to determine which data is relevant, reliable and sufficient for decisions.
