Escapism

Escapism is escapism in activities, fantasies or stimuli that temporarily distract us from difficult reality.

Definition

Escapism may be a short-term respite from overload, but it becomes a problem when it constantly replaces confrontation with real needs, decisions or emotions. It may take the form of excessive scrolling, gaming, fantasizing, work, shopping or isolation. It is crucial to distinguish recovery from avoidance.
