Irritation

Irritation is a state of slight or increasing irritation, often signaling overload, boundary violation, or need frustration.

Definition

Irritation may be an earlier signal than anger. It may inform us that something is tiring us, exceeding us, delaying us or requiring a response. It is not a problem in itself; the problem becomes transmitting it automatically to people or ignoring it until it explodes.

Practice and life

When you notice irritation, ask: Am I tired, overloaded, hungry, rushed, or have my boundaries been violated? Only then choose your reaction.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to dismiss irritation as "no big deal." A common mistake is to use it as an excuse for a harsh tone.
