HPA axis

The HPA axis is a communication system between the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands, important for the body's response to stress.

Definition

The HPA axis triggers a hormonal cascade that leads, among others, for the secretion of cortisol. It helps you respond to challenges, but chronic or too frequent stimulation can disturb the body's balance. It's not a single stress switch, but a feedback system between the brain, hormones and body.

Practice and life

In case of chronic tension, check the three pillars of stress axis regulation: sleep, meal rhythm and regular rest from stimuli.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to reduce stress only to thoughts or only to hormones. The second mistake is to interpret every stress reaction as a pathology.
