Stress factor

A stress factor is an event, condition, or stimulus that triggers a stress response or increases the body's workload.

Definition

The stressor may be an external situation, conflict, deadline, noise, illness, lack of sleep, but also the thought or anticipation of a threat. Whether something becomes a stressor depends on the assessment of the situation, resources and ability to act. Therefore, working with stress involves both changing conditions and regulating interpretations and the body.

Practice and life

Write down the stressor, its source, its effect on the body, and one thing you can change or protect yourself from.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to look for stress only "in your head". The second mistake is to ignore small, repeatable stressors that add up to a cost.
