Social role

A social role is a set of expectations, behaviors and responsibilities assigned to a person occupying a specific position in a group or society.

Definition

Social roles help organize collective life because they indicate what people can expect from each other. At the same time, they can create tensions when several roles conflict with each other or when a role limits a person's authenticity and needs. Maturity involves consciously distinguishing the role from the whole identity.
