Serotonin

Serotonin is a chemical compound that functions as a neurotransmitter and biological signal, participating in, among others: in regulating mood, sleep, appetite and body processes.

Definition

Serotonin is sometimes incorrectly called a simple "happiness hormone". In fact, it works in and outside the brain, including: in the digestive system and blood, and its role depends on the receptors, place of action and context of the body. Mood should not be reduced to one neurotransmitter.

Practice and life

If you're working on mood, look beyond just one chemical: sleep, exercise, relationships, stress, diet and treatment if needed.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to think that serotonin alone explains happiness or depression. It is also a mistake to manipulate medications or supplements on your own without consulting them.
