Reflex

A reflex is a quick, automatic response of the body to a stimulus, often occurring without a conscious decision.

Definition

Reflexes help you respond quickly to threats or changes in the environment. They may be innate, like withdrawing your hand from pain, or modified by experience. In personal development, it is important to distinguish a body reflex from a conscious action, because only after the reflex there is room for regulation.

Practice and life

When you react automatically, call it after the fact: "it was a reflex." Then choose one conscious correction for the future.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to expect complete control over reflex reactions. It is also a mistake to justify behavior that can be later regulated with every reflex.
