Mindfulness

Mindfulness is consciously maintaining attention on current experience with an attitude of openness and without immediate judgment.

Definition

Mindfulness does not mean passively accepting everything or cutting off emotions. It is training in noticing thoughts, sensations and reactions before you automatically follow them. It may support stress regulation, but does not replace therapy or treatment when symptoms are severe.

Practice and life

For a minute, notice the three layers of experience: breathing, body tension and dominant thought, without the need to immediately change them.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to treat mindfulness as an obligation to be calm. The goal is to notice, not perfect silence.
