Curiosity

Curiosity is the motivation to learn, ask questions, and explore what is new, obscure, or significant.

Definition

Curiosity supports learning, cognitive flexibility and a deeper understanding of problems. It may be cognitive, when it results from the need to understand, or exploratory, when it leads to new experiences. In personal development, curiosity helps replace automatic judgment with the question: "what's really going on here?"

Practice and life

For a difficult reaction, write down three research questions instead of three assessments of yourself or the other person.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse curiosity with chaotic information gathering. A common mistake is curiosity without stopping, which turns into distraction.
