Generativity

Generativity is the need to create, support and pass on something of value to next people or the future.

Definition

In developmental psychology, generativity is associated with Erikson's stage of caring for subsequent generations, work, relationships, culture and social contribution. It doesn't have to mean having children; it can be expressed in creating, mentoring, caring, teaching, building projects and leaving behind a structure that serves others.

Practice and life

Write down one thing you can pass on: knowledge, a tool, support, an example, or a structured process.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse generativity with limitless dedication. Creating value for others also requires taking care of your own resources.
