Phobia

A phobia is a strong, persistent fear of a specific object or situation, usually out of proportion to the real threat and leading to avoidance.

Definicja

Phobias can cause intense psychological and physiological reactions and limit everyday functioning. Just feeling fear does not mean you have a phobia; what is important is durability, strength of reaction, avoidance and impact on life. In case of severe symptoms, specialist support may be helpful, and one of the best described methods of treating phobias is exposure therapy.

Praktyka i życie

If the anxiety is mild, write down a scale of difficulty from 1 to 10 and start with the safest exposure to the topic. If you have severe anxiety, work with a specialist.

Częste błędne rozumienie

It is a mistake to shame yourself for having a phobia. It is also dangerous to push exposure at too high a level on your own without preparation and support.
