Value map

A value map is an organized image of what is important to a person and how these values translate into decisions.

Definition

The Values Map is not a wish list or a moral ranking of other people. It is a personal compass that helps recognize which courses of action make sense, where conflicts of values arise and which decisions require conscious priority. In approaches such as ACT, values are treated as life directions, not goals to be checked off.

Practice and life

List 10 important values, choose 5 key ones, and for each one write down one behavior that shows it in everyday life.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse values with goals, status or expectations of the environment. Often, the value map remains abstract and does not translate into action.
