Mirror neurons
Mirror neurons are nerve cells that fire both when performing an action and when observing a similar action in others.
Definition
The concept comes from research on the motor system and observation of action. Mirror neurons are important in discussions of imitation learning and action understanding, but their role should not be extended without caution to all social phenomena. They are not a simple explanation of empathy, morality or "mind reading".

Practice and life
When you learn a new activity, combine observing a good example with immediate practice and correction.
Common misunderstanding
It is a mistake to treat mirror neurons as a magical explanation for empathy. It is also a mistake to ignore broader cognitive and social networks.
