Neocortex
Neocortex is an evolutionarily younger part of the cerebral cortex, particularly developed in mammals, associated with complex cognitive processing.
Definition
The neocortex is involved in sensory processing, planning, language, abstract thinking, and action control. It does not operate in isolation from emotions and the body; works with many brain networks. The popular division into "reptilian brain", "limbic" and "rational" is only a simplified metaphor.

Common misunderstanding
It is a mistake to present the neocortex as the only "rational center." Decisions result from the cooperation of many systems.
