Habitus

Habitus is a fixed set of dispositions, ways of perceiving and reacting, shaped by the social environment and life history.

Definicja

The concept of habitus, associated especially with Pierre Bourdieu, describes how social conditions, upbringing, class, practices and experiences become relatively enduring ways of sensing the world and acting in it. Habitus does not determine a person completely, but it influences what seems natural, possible, appropriate or unattainable.

Praktyka i życie

Write down three beliefs about what "people like me" are appropriate, allowed, or profitable to do. Check whether they are facts or traces of habitus.

Częste błędne rozumienie

It is a mistake to use habitus as an excuse that nothing can be changed. This concept helps you see influence, not takes away agency.
