Prefrontal cortex

The prefrontal cortex is an area in the front of the frontal lobes important for planning, behavioral control, decision-making, and emotion regulation.

Definicja

The prefrontal cortex is involved in executive functions: planning, response inhibition, cognitive flexibility, working memory and assessment of consequences. It does not work alone, but cooperates with many brain structures. High stress, fatigue and strong emotions may impair its participation in conscious control.

Praktyka i życie

In a situation of strong tension, first lower your body's arousal and only then make a decision that requires an analysis of the consequences.

Częste błędne rozumienie

It is a mistake to treat the prefrontal cortex as the only "rational center." Decisions are made in brain networks, not in one place.
