Openness to experience

Openness to experience is a personality dimension related to curiosity, imagination, tolerance of new things and readiness to contact with different ideas.

Definition

In the Big Five model, openness describes the tendency to explore new experiences, art, ideas and perspectives. High openness can support creativity and learning, but it is not a substitute for critical thinking. Low openness may provide stability and attachment to proven solutions, but sometimes makes adaptation difficult.

Practice and life

Once a week, intentionally expose yourself to one new perspective and write down what comes out of it, even if you don't agree with it.

Common misunderstanding

It is a mistake to confuse openness with the lack of boundaries. The second mistake is to judge routine as always worse than newness.
