Insight is a sudden or gradual understanding of one's pattern, problem, emotion, or relationship between elements of a situation.

Definition

Insight can be transformative because it changes the way you see a problem. However, it is not the same as changing behavior. It may indicate a mechanism, but only practice, decisions and repeated actions translate it into real change. In personal development, insight should lead to a small, testable step.

Key ideas

  1. Understanding the pattern
  2. A change of perspective
  3. The need for action after insight

Practice and life

After each important insight, write down one sentence: "In practical terms, this means that I will now do..."

Common misconceptions

It is a mistake to collect insights without action. It is also a mistake to expect that understanding alone will automatically solve an established pattern. > Insight doesn't finish the job, but it shows you where you really need to start. > — Guru Element

Questions for self-reflection

  • What exactly did I see?
  • What pattern became clear?
  • What small step comes from this insight?
