Integration of body and mind

Mind-body integration is the understanding that mental, emotional and bodily processes influence each other.

Definition

This does not mean that "thoughts can cure everything." It is about taking into account reliably the connections between stress, breathing, tension, sleep, movement, emotions and the interpretation of signals from the body. This approach helps build regulation more holistically: through body, attention, behavior and meaning.

Key ideas

  1. Mutual influence of body and mind
  2. Interoception
  3. Multi-channel regulation

Practice and life

When feeling tense, follow the sequence: notice the body signal, name the emotion, slow down your breathing, make a small movement and only then analyze the problem.

Common misconceptions

It is a mistake to go to extremes: to treat the body as an addition to the psyche or the psyche as a simple result of body chemistry. Solid integration requires both perspectives. > The body and mind do not have separate conversations - they are one system in two languages. > — Guru Element

Questions for self-reflection

  • What does my body say about my condition?
  • How do my thoughts affect tension?
  • Which regulation channel will be the simplest now: breathing, movement, sleep, conversation or analysis?
