Homeostasis

Homeostasis is the body's ability to maintain relative internal balance despite changes in the environment.

Definition

Homeostasis is a dynamic regulatory process by which the body maintains conditions favorable to survival, such as temperature, glucose levels, and hydration. It does not mean staying the same without change, but constantly adapting the response. In psychology, this concept is sometimes used metaphorically to describe the need for balance and tension regulation.

Key ideas

  1. Dynamic balance
  2. Internal regulation
  3. Reaction to change

Practice and life

After a period of intense work, plan a conscious return to balance: sleep, eat, move and limit stimuli for a few hours.

Common misconceptions

It is a mistake to treat homeostasis as comfort without tension. Healthy regulation allows for variability and momentary deviations. > A living system does not stand still; maintains balance through constant adjustments. > — Guru Element

Questions for self-reflection

  • What is out of balance in my system today?
  • What basic resource is missing: sleep, food, exercise, silence?
  • What small adjustment will bring greater balance?
