Personal effectiveness

Personal effectiveness is the ability to achieve important results with the judicious use of time, energy and attention.

Definition

Personal effectiveness combines prioritization, planning, energy regulation, concentration, and performance review. It is not a cult of productivity or constant acceleration. Mature effectiveness takes into account rest, values, limitations and the mental cost of action.

Key ideas

  1. Priorities
  2. Attention management
  3. The result rather than the activity itself

Practice and life

At the beginning of the day, choose one most important thing, two supporting things and three minor things. Do the most important task first before reacting to other people's business.

Common misconceptions

It is a mistake to confuse busyness with effectiveness. A common mistake is optimizing small tasks while avoiding strategic decisions. > Efficiency is not about doing everything faster, but about doing the right things consciously. > — Guru Element

Questions for self-reflection

  • Which outcome will really move things forward?
  • What do I do just to feel busy?
  • How can we reduce the cost of attention on this task?
